As the story unfolded
You said it was because I kept leaving…
You never asked why…
You never gave me a reason to stay…
To me it seemed…
Those you had and kept closest…
Those that were narcissistic…
Those whose life stories you shared…
It wasn’t about my leaving…
It was about you coming back…
It wasn’t about your poetry…
It wasn’t about my poetry
It wasn’t about our poetry…
In those final hours…
You shared with me…
You shared how they hit upon you…
You shared how they wanted what we had…
In the story of us…
They wanted what they could not have…
They wanted what would make them whole…
They wanted what we found in each other…
They wanted the love we shared…
They wanted the love they did not have…
The story of you, is the story of us…
