A Poet's Haven

I often wake to the sound of the coffee maker gurglling…

As the moments pass the aroma finds me…

I learned one morning why she’s up and sitting by the window…

I had wondered why she chose to sip her coffee there…

One morning I quietly went to another window to see…

At first all I could see was a couple of gray wooly tails…

Squirreling around looking for seeds and whatevers…

A moment later the first Morning Dove joined them…

Followed by more all around the Sycamore and dim morning light…

One bush in the yard was decorated with Cardinals…

A number of female Cardinals wandered around the yard…

Pecking at the ground as the Sun continued to rise…

I’m not sure how long I stood there…

At least a dozen other birds joined them…

Tiny little things compared to the Doves…

I was left speechless…

A moment of true harmony in nature without humans…

A few days later I played dumb and joined her…

With a kiss upon the head…

I did steal a few moments online…

To learn about birds in our area…
