They told me she was not real…
An imaginary playmate…
A figment of my imagination…
I was all of nine months…
When my first Autumn came…
September would become my favorite month…
My siblings would get new clothes…
And leave for the day…
I don’t remember her name…
But then children want to play…
We remember faces more than names…
An irregular heart beat made me clumsy…
Someone had to be with me all day long…
Both parents worked and I had a Nanny…
Her name was Dorthy Pinto of The Zuni Nation…
She lived on the Reservation on outskirts of
Albuquerque, New Mexico…
I remember her and the most pleasant time of my life…
Living on a small farm we bought a lot of our supplies
From the Zuni people…
My Summers were full of siblings and farm critters..
Varying images from my early youth…
As we both grew come September’s and Autumn’s…
For every year my playmate returns…
She still remembers my name and awakens…
Me of a morning and from afternoon naps…
Some years we walk and talk…
Some years we watch the leaves as they fall…
Laugh and giggle over the way they fly and tumble…
My Nanny told me I had a very strong Spirit watching me…
Come September and Autumn I will find her again…
My Spirit of Autumn…
The lines about my Nanny are true…
